The league cycle will have a pre-season, regular season, post-season playoffs, as well as an off-season. Quality of performance in regular season will determine which playoff brackets amongst the Amateur, Pro, or Elite will be joined. Each month starts a new cycle. Arena banners and on-ice logos identify teams that do well in the post-season. A Free Agent Pack and a Draft Pack are given during the off season to change the team member options. Users will find that chemistry plays a key role in this mode.

Over 200 game play changes make this game, a more authentic feel. The new real-time physics engine is the biggest change. It makes every match more realistic and unpredictable. It replaces the old animation system. The unpredictability of real games is more realized in its virtual version. The new faceoff system further enhances realism that makes this version a greater delight to play. This title brings the addition of the Canadian Hockey League in play. The 3 subgroups are the Quebec Major Junior Hockey, the Ontario Hockey and the Western Hockey leagues. These young players constitute members of an elite level of junior hockey. Their addition increases the number of playable teams by 60. Players can now play for the Memorial Cup. Teams are using their appearance in the game as a promotional tool to raise popular awareness of junior hockey.
